Phase 02
The Problem
Freelancersdon'thaveopsteams.They'retheprojectmanager,accountant,andaccountexecutiveallatonce.ThetypicalsetupisNotionfortasks,WhatsAppforclientupdates,aspreadsheetforexpenses,andaseparatetoolforinvoices.That'snotasystem—that'sfourseparatecontextstomaintainwhilealsodoingtheactualwork.Thingsgetmissed.Invoicesgooutlate.Paymentsgetforgotten.
Phase 03
Design Approach
Istartedbymappingoutthecorejobsafreelancerneedstodoonanygivenworkday:checkwhat'sdue,loganewexpense,followuponanunpaidinvoice,updateaprojectmilestone.Thatlistbecametheskeletonforthenavigationandquick-actionsystem.Thegoalwastomakesurethemostcommontasksrequiredthefewesttaps—notburiedinsidenestedmenus.
Phase 04
Information Architecture
Theappisstructuredaroundfourtabs:Home,Work,Clients,andFinance.Eachmapstoaclearmentalmodelafreelanceralreadyhas.Homegivesyoutoday'sfocus—activetasks,incomesnapshot,andrecentclientactivity.Workholdsyourprojectsandmilestones.Clientsstoreseverythingtiedtoaspecificperson.Financetracksmoneyin,moneyout,andwhat'sstillowed.Nooverlap,noconfusionaboutwherethingslive.
Phase 05
Wireframing & Structure
Beforegoinghigh-fidelity,Iwireframedthefourheroscreens—thedashboard,projectdetail,clientprofile,andfinanceoverview—tovalidatethelayoutlogic.Thekeydecisionatthisstagewasplacingquick-actionshortcutsdirectlybelowthefinancialsummarycardonthehomescreen.Thereasoning:afterafreelancercheckstheirnumbers,thenextinstinctiveactionistodosomethingaboutthem—createaninvoice,logapayment,addatask.Thelayoutfollowsthatmomentum.
